About the course

Football is a dynamic game that requires players to be adaptable and strong decision makers.

To achieve this, coaches need to engage players and be competent at designing relevant, game-like practices. Coaching in this way ensures that players can develop, practice and prepare for competition.

The UEFA B is designed for coaches aspiring to coach or coaching in boys (EPPP) and girls (professional game academies and emerging talent centres) academy environments, along with coaches aspiring to coach, or coaching in National League system steps 1-6 (Male game) or Tiers 3 and 4 (Female game).

The UEFA B Diploma will help you understand the demands of the game and how to meet the needs of players as they build a deeper understanding of their various roles and responsibilities within the team.

Course prerequisites

To take part in the UEFA B Diploma course, you must:

  • Hold the UEFA C Qualification or the FA Level 2 in Coaching Football course / 1st4sport Level 2 Certificate in Coaching Football and undertake a UEFA C conversion course if your application is successful.

  • 12 months experience as either a head coach or assistant coach post UEFA C.

  • You must be living in England and actively coaching a team in a season-long competition, as our Coach Developers may be required to travel to visit you during the course.

  • Declaration of an in-date Introduction to First Aid in Football / The FA Emergency Aid in Football and in date completion certificate for our Safeguarding Children Course

  • Coaching players aged 12 or above (or coaching in a boys or girls professional academy environment).

     

  • Be able to effectively communicate in English (this includes listening, speaking, reading and writing)

Course structure

1. Assessment

There are four modules to complete as part of the UEFA B Diploma:

  • Developing a game model
  • Coaching approach
  • Individual tactics
  • Consolidation and assessment

A module consists of:

  • E-learning
  • Digital bundle of resources to access
  • Face to face practical days   
  • 1:1 online progress discussion with a coach developer (module one and four only)
  • Development visit from a coach developer to learners coaching context (module two and three only)

2. Reassessment

You will have 18 months from the start of the first module to meet the assessment criteria and achieve the diploma. You are allowed up to two re-assessment attempts after the course has concluded; however, each re-assessment must be paid for and will take place at a regional venue.

 

If you are not assessed as competent within the 18-month registration period, you will be required to repurchase and retake the course in full.



3. Outcomes

The UEFA B Diploma will help you:

  • Prepare your players and team for the game, applying the principles of play, to their evolving game model and their players age and stage of development.
  • Understand your players needs and can help them develop technically, tactically, physically, psychologically and socially to play the game.
  • Plan, deliver and review a short-term progressive training and games programme, recognising and demonstrating what and how to coach players to understand the roles and responsibilities of their position.
  • Understand their values, beliefs and experiences and how they shape their behaviours as a coach.
